The Fitness Center includes:
- Aerobic Room
- Collegiate-sized Basketball Court
- Cardiovascular Room
- Locker Room
- Nautilus Room
- Saunas for both men and women (children 15 years old and under may not use saunas at any time)
- Tennis Courts

- Indoor and Outdoor Pool
- Racquetball Court
Fitness Center is open to Active Duty Service Members and Families, Retirees and Family Members, DoD APF/NAF civilian employees, DoD civilian employees, DoD contractors, and etc. For a complete list, click here.
No one under 12 years of age is permitted in the facility without a parent or guardian, or without being a participant in a special program organized and conducted by the Child and Youth Services, schools, or other authorized youth organizations.
- Cardiovascular and Weight Room

The Cardiovascular Room has an array of aerobic equipment to include stairmasters, startrac steppers, treadmills, stepmills, and elliptical trainers. In addition to the aerobic equipment, there are individual Nautilus machines, Recumbent Bikes, Upright Bikes, Gravitrons, Spin Cycles, and free weights.
Rules:
- Children 12 years old and under may not use mechanical cardiovascular equipment, or strength areas at any time.
- As a family member, children and youth (15 years old and under) must be actively participating in the same activity and under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.
- As a participant in a special program, organized and conducted by Child and Youth Services, school, or other authorized youth organizations.
- Children of kindergarten age and older will use gender appropriate showers, locker rooms, and bathrooms.
- Tennis Courts

Three surfaced tennis courts are available to military and civilian personnel. Military members have priority if the courts are filled. The courts are lighted, allowing for night play.
Tennis Courts are located next to the Swimming Pool. Tennis shoes are required.

Fort Detrick Sports and Fitness holds multiple 5k and 10k walks and runs. Please be aware that the runs can SELL OUT if the maximum number of participants is reached, so sign up early! Trophies will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place winners of each category.

Tackle a new sport or get better at one you already enjoy with Army Intramural Sports programs. We encourage participation by units and provide instruction, practice and competition opportunities for all skill levels.
When you participate in an intramural sport, you develop your teamwork skills and competitive spirit. At the same time, you’re maintaining your physical fitness and your unit’s readiness. The Garrison Intramural Sports Program offers broad-based team and individual sports based on Soldier interest, installation Senior and Mission Commander desires, availability of garrison sport facilities, unit mission requirements and local climate. Unit level Intramural leagues emphasize sports that promote group participation with a wide appeal; such as softball, volleyball, flag football, basketball, kickball, dodgeball, and soccer. The Garrison Intramural Sports Program is conducted year-round.

Athletic attire appropriate to the activity is mandated to ensure the safety, personal hygiene and protection of customers and property.
Shirt, shorts/pants, and shoes are required at all times while working out in the fitness centers (except pool).
ACU’s/BDU’s are allowed to be worn in the weight room only for Active Duty Soldiers.
- Guest Policy

Authorized patrons are permitted to bring a guest when space is available. Guests must be escorted by the sponsor at all times. No one under the age of 18 years is permitted to sign in a guest.
All guest using the pool are required to pay $5.
- Children

Children 12 years old and under are not authorized to use mechanical cardiovascular equipment, or free weight room. No child under the age of 12 years old is permitted to use the sauna at anytime.
As a family member, children and youth (under the age of 12 years old), must be actively participating in the same activity and under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.

- Security

It is the patron’s responsibility to secure their valuables while utilizing CPT Jennifer J. Shafer Odom Fitness Center. Family and MWR will not be held responsible for patrons’ property. Please bring your own lock for lockers*. Staff may not safe guard personal property.
*Lockers are for daily use only. Please do not leave your belongings overnight.
- Inappropriate Behavior

Use of foul language (cursing), yelling, fighting or heated arguments will not be tolerated at anytime for any reason. CPT Jennifer J. Shafer Odom Fitness Center staff will handle inappropriate behavior in accordance with Standards of Operation Procedures.
